FLICKR POOL SATURDAYS!
(Thesis Talk Edition!)

I think if I can somehow make my thesis about (American) football in some way or another, that I can have it finished really early and/or get a genuinely good grade for it. I just have to figure out what angle to tackle it from. There are definitely ways I can make it work, it’ll just take a lot of reading to understand how. Something about Sports Illustrated covers or maybe NFL Films. It’s there and it’s waiting for me. Just read Alex. Read a lot.

TOP: Brian Luman
So this is the second week in a row that Brian has had the feature image for this post. He’s just had a really good string of consistent work lately and it’s that very consistency that’s most impressive. It’s easy to get lucky and make one interesting photograph. It’s a very different story to do it over and over again.
Brian took this shot just after moving into his new home in Brooklyn, NY. Why do all the talented people migrate there? Any chance that the internet wants to make Dublin the new Brooklyn? It’d make the art circuit over here a lot more interesting for sure.
Favourite aspect of this image; tonal treatment. There’s a dynamic range of highs and lows without acquiring that disgusting HDR style.

LEFT: Leo Berne
There’s such a wonderful Mediterranean vibe coming from this photo. I think it’s the worn past-tense luxury of that car interior. It could even be the girl herself. I’m not sure, but it makes me want to move somewhere like Corsica and open a café.

RIGHT: Dale Rothenberg
Dale has been featured here several times and he will continue to be as long as his output remains at this quality. Someday I’d like to own a series of Rothenberg prints on my wall. Someday.

Click on any of the above photos to see them larger.
Submit to the DF Flickr Pool to maybe see your shots here next week!
